Year 10 Work Experience
In the last week of term one, our Year 10 students embarked on an exciting journey into the world of work as they completed their first career experience block of the year.
Students explored a diverse array of industries, ranging from automotive to x-ray and imaging, engineering, vet clinics, pet grooming, florists, and may other industries. They took the initiative to source placements in their industries they were keen to learn more about, approaching business owners and securing work experience opportunities for a week-long immersion into their desired professional.
The senior school career experience program is all about providing students with early engagement in the workforce while nurturing the development of transferable skills. Through this immersive experience, students not only explore potential career paths but also undergo a journey of self-discovery, uncovering their strengths and adaptability in various workplace settings. As students’ complete tasks and interact with professionals, their confidence and conviction receive a significant boost. Experiencing industry demands firsthand bridges, the gap between academic learning and future career aspirations, igniting ambition and guiding students toward further education and training opportunities. These experiences may also open opportunities for future career pathways, including job placements or apprenticeships.
The feedback received from both students and employers has been overwhelmingly positive. Our students excelled in representing our school, and the constructive feedback provided by employers has opened avenues for future development and growth. Notably, the need for further developing communication skills emerged as a prominent transferable skill for improvement for some students.
Armed with this insightful feedback, we embark on a journey of continuous improvement. Year 10 students will participate in further blocks of career experience throughout the year as we remain committed to tracking, measuring, and monitoring the development of transferable skills in our students.
Caloundra City Private School extends its gratitude to the Sunshine Coast businesses that collaborated with our school, generously offering invaluable hands-on learning experiences for our students.
