It’s Amazing What You can Squeeze Into a Little Time With Semester 2 firmly arrived with the south-westerly feeling for snow, School life is immediately rushing onwards. On Thursday 1 August at 5.30pm in the Raelene Boyle Hall, we will be thrilled to see and enjoy our students’ Twilight Concert, along with Film, TV and New Media projects, and Visual Arts creative works. This is a fabulous event for the School and our students who create some wonderful items for us all to enjoy together. I look forward to seeing you there very much. Year 12 students will be thrust into the Queensland Core Skills Test this Term; and their full Practice Test will be held on Thursday and Friday of Week 1. The QCS Test includes the two hour Writing Task; a ninety minute Multichoice paper; and the two hour Short Response paragraphs format over two hours on Friday morning. The Test will be held in DEM 1 and 2, commencing at 8.30 am. Detailed written feedback is provided for each student for the three formats. The QCS Test is used to scale our students’ subject results in comparison to all Queensland Year 12 students’ results, when calculating the students’ OP ranking number 1 to 25. The real QCS Test will be held on 3-4 September in Week 8. This practice exam the students will sit this week is vital in helping them to feel at ease with the test type; as well as building on the detailed feedback and analysis of their previous practice. Term 3 is the pointy end for Queensland school students who aim for university placement. We wish our students a very successful experience this week. We welcome new Teachers, Mr Webb, with Years 10, 11 and 12 Mathematics General and A, and Year 7 Maths and English; and Mrs Bloxham in DEM as our Teacher-Librarian and with Years 7 and 8 Philosophical Inquiry classes. These Teachers have a wealth of talents and experiences shared between them and I know our students will enjoy their work with them. As it always seems, there is good news mixed with bad. Dr Simeoni has announced that he will finish at CCPS at the conclusion of the Year 12 program in Term 4 and he will move from his Year 11 classes by 6 August. The search for his replacement in Physics and Mathematics is underway. I will bring you this important progress when it is available. Our Senior School Subject Information Night will be held in the Henzell Building on Monday 5 August from 6.00pm. Teachers will be available to talk with students and their parents about their subject choices for the coming Years 9, 10 and 11, following the latest information from the Qld Curriculum and Assessment Authority regarding the new ATAR system that will commence in 2020 for Year 12. This new system is centralised and work authenticated from Brisbane, so its changes do provide challenges for all in Queensland schools. We wish everyone a smooth start to the Semester and I look forward to seeing you at our Twilight Concert. Dr Dirk Wellham – Principal
