Term 1 Music to Our Ears The School is very proud of our musical performers, and perhaps this commences in Prep Music classes. Ms Fung and the students star in a newly produced video which is uber cute, and although it’s in a not quite finished version yet, it will soon be posted on our Facebook page for all to enjoy. They are a beautiful class to watch. Our page also has a fabulous video of Georgia Nicholson (Yr 6) performing “Mama Mia” superbly at School Assembly. Mia Fritz in Kindergarten stars on our page with a very important message about rubbish and our environment, and she really is amazing to watch – you would think she is carefully coached and edited for her presentation but she is entirely herself and wonderful, explaining about rubbish clean-up, our waterways, and our environment to her class. Our Year 10 students, Sasha Karatyubina, Molly Wright, Trinity Bennie, Shandrey Pretorius, Jesse Smith, Ryan Minahan, and James Donnelly, are shooting a sports promotions video for the School, with Dr McMahon, and we look forward to seeing that when it’s completed in the near future, using the brilliant Raelene Boyle Hall (RBH) facilities. In other sports news, it has been great to see the RBH full of students playing on the courts during lunchtimes, including our two Netball teams. It’s excellent to see a game of basketball at one end with boys and girls playing; netball players at the other end; and volleyballers in the middle. I’m sure the children are enjoying being able to use these great courts. In some wonderful news for the School this week, Sunshine Coast Independent Schools Sports Association (SCISSA) has agree to include our School teams to play in their competitions in Volleyball, Rugby 7s, and Touch Football. Dr McMahon will have further news of the details in the weeks ahead, but this is exciting for all our students. I thank our staff and our wonderful P&F for the first market garden stall for the year last Friday, with eggs, honey, lettuce, limes and passionfruit just picked and collected from our Permaculture Garden. I can testify that the lettuce was superbly crisp, and the honey was beautiful. I hope you had a chance to enjoy some of our fresh produce. Our new P&F Committee met yesterday morning, led by Michelle Fowler, with a full contingent of Office Bearers and I am delighted to be able to contribute to their work for the School. It is a terrific group of caring people, led by Michelle whom I congratulate most warmly for her community spirit and generous work. On Monday, I was privileged to attend the Queensland Premier’s, Annastacia Palaszczuk’s, Community Forum event held at Bokarina, with her Cabinet and MPs from both sides of the House. Mayor Mark Jamieson also spoke about the significant growth of the Sunshine Coast and the new infrastructure and achievements such as at University of Sunshine Coast with its new campuses in Caboolture and other locations; the University Hospital, the technology and innovations hubs the Government and Council are developing, and of course the Bryce Highway and railway transport corridors that are planned or underway. These are exciting times for Australia’s fastest growing region, and the School is proud to be part of that progress for our community. We are also delighted to be hosting for the next six weeks, five students from Rundle College Calgary, Canada, who are return hosted by our Year 12 students, Sean Tobin, Blake Ross, Emily Lawler, Alec Latham, and Adon Wyatt.
