St Mary’s Aged Care Fishing Trip
CCPS students from Years 7, 8 and 9 and residents of St Mary’s Aged Care joined together for a morning of fishing! With fishing rods in hand, the students assisted the elderly, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to participate.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
This fishing trip was not just an enjoyable outing but also a valuable educational experience. The students developed key transferable skills, particularly in communication. Working closely with the residents, they learned the importance of active listening, and mutual respect. These skills are not only vital for their personal growth but also for their future interactions in diverse settings.
Reflecting on this day, it’s evident that the true catch of the day was not just the fish, but the moments of connection, learning, and connections shared between the students and the residents. This fishing trip stands as a shining example of how learning and development of transferable skills can happen outside of the classroom.
Both the students and the residents are eager for future opportunities to connect and learn from each other.
