As you have been informed by Mrs Cuthbert, in light of the current situation with COVID-19 the School has decided to adjust its term dates and finish Term 1 on Friday, 27 March. This will make Term 1 a 9 week term. The plan is to change Term 2 from a 9 week term to a 10 week term and so the last day of Term 2 will be Friday, 26 June. Term 2 will commence for students on Tuesday, 21 April. If we are not able to open physically, we will provide online teaching and learning for all students. This current plan means no learning time is lost for students.  Thank you to all the students, parents and staff for your support and understanding during this unprecedented time of uncertainty. I wish you all a safe and healthy break – ‘not holiday’ and hope you can use the ‘isolated’ time to spend some quality time at home with your close families. The school will continue to monitor the situation closely and communicate any further advice we receive from the Government. Stay safe. OSHC – Vacation Care The Easter Vacation program has been extended to include next week and will now operate from Monday 30 March to Friday 17 April. The program will operate from Pelican’s Nest Early Learning Centre. Class News from 6ND Harmony Week is celebrated around Australia from 15 March to 21 March each year. It’s a week of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home – from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world. The message of Harmony Day is Everyone Belongs. In Year 6ND we decided to do a “genealogy” survey which means we researched where our families have come from. We collected results about where we as a class were born, where our parents were born and where our grandparents were born. This allowed our class to see where our cultural heritage comes from and to celebrate our diversity through our family history.   The results were that we as a class had 2 different origins of birth: Australia and New Zealand. Our parents had 8 different origins of birth: Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, France, South Africa, Mauritius and Papua New Guinea. Our grandparents had 10 different origins of birth: Australia, England, New Zealand, Scotland, France, South Africa, Mauritius, Malta, Germany and Greece. As you can see our small survey of only 17 students, demonstrates the cultural diversity of our class (and school community) and the variety of cultures that our parents and grandparents have come from.  This cultural diversity provides an opportunity for people to get to know each other better and discuss each other’s cultural backgrounds and experiences.  As a small celebration of Harmony Week, 6ND had a multicultural lunch in our classroom on Friday last week, where students were encouraged to bring a small plate of food to share from their family’s cultural background or from a country around the world. With flags from around the world spread out around the room, it was a great time for the class to celebrate multiculturalism in Australia. A big thank you to all the parents for preparing and organising the delicious food! The main message that everyone can take from the Harmony Week celebration is no matter where we come from… Everyone Belongs!
