Last week our students in Year 6 attended a Leadership Day at the Apex Camp at Mudjimba. Following on from this day they have been involved in writing and delivering speeches, nominations and voting for a number of leadership positions. These positions included Junior School Captains, House Captains and members of the Student Representative Committee. This is an exciting time for the Year 6 students and I know that they will lead the Junior School with pride. The 2020 Junior School leaders will be presented with their badges at the whole School Leadership assembly being held in the Raelene Boyle Hall at 8.30am on Wednesday 12 February. All parents are welcome to attend this assembly. Healthy Child Check Early childhood is a critical time for development. Children often experience peaks and troughs in their development. For this reason, we have sought out an expert team of senior health professionals to provide a development screen of the children’s hearing, eyesight, fine motor skills, gross motor skills and speech and language abilities. Fully qualified and experienced professionals will conduct the screens. The Audiologist, Speech Pathologist, Optometrist and Occupational Therapist have specific experience working with young children within clinics on the Sunshine Coast. The screenings will take place at Caloundra City Private School in the week beginning 4 March 2020. As part of our School’s assessment program all Prep students participate in the screenings. The screenings are also available to all other students at the school. If you are interested in your child participating please contact me at gfrisby@ccps.qld.edu.au or on 5437 5800 for further information. Class News from City Stars Kindergarten The City Stars are becoming familiar with routines, transitions and expectations and they have already started to form wonderful warm relationships. The children are enjoying freedom in ‘construction play’ while using open ended blocks and transportation vehicles. All kinds of art and craft projects are taking place in the ‘art area’ including science projects. And in the ‘home corner’, acting out familiar roles such as cooking, shopping, feeding/dressing baby dolls, taking photographs and dressing up are all favourites! We are so proud of how well the City Stars have settled into Kindergarten and look forward to an exciting term ahead!
