Junior School Assembly Thank you to Miss Hirst and the Year 3 students for the sharing a beautiful story and song about all living happily and harmoniously together. Congratulations to all the students who received Merit Certificates for the great work they have been doing in class. I hope parents and grandparents were able to see some photos and videos shared by the teachers and on our School Facebook page. The next Junior School Assembly will be held at 8.30am on Wednesday 12 August. The Year 2 class will be making a presentation and Merit Certificates will be awarded to selected students from each class. Unfortunately, at this stage parents will not be able to attend due to the ongoing government restrictions in place. Semester 1 Reports A reminder that Semester 1 reports will be available through Parent Lounge from 3pm tomorrow, Friday 31 July. The Semester 1 reports are our first round of formal reporting for 2020. Student Progress Conferences The Term 3 Student Progress Conferences will be held on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 August. Please ensure that you have booked in for your Term 3 conference as online bookings close at 3pm on Monday 3 August. Teachers are looking forward to participating in these important discussions with you and your child. Together you will be able to review your child’s Semester 1 formative assessment and share the goals your child has set for the remainder of the year. The conferences have been moved to the classrooms in the Ford Building to ensure we are able to implement a number of COVID safe procedures. A letter regarding the procedures and a Visitor’s Information form have been placed on Parent Portal. Please ensure you log in and read the letter and if possible, print off and complete the Visitor’s Information form and bring it with you to the conference. If you are unable to complete the form prior to the conferences, there will be copies available. Grandparents Day Regrettably, we have made the decision to cancel Grandparents Day which was scheduled for Friday 18 September. We are conscious that many grandparents live quite a distance away and in light of the situation south of our border we believe that this decision is in the interest of everyone’s safety. We plan to go ahead with the Cross Country in the morning and the Colour Run in the afternoon for the students. There will be more information regarding these events closer to the date. Jeans for Genes Day The Student Representative Council together with our Senior School Service Captains are conducting a fundraising event ton Friday 7 August to raise funds for the Jeans for Genes campaign. Every dollar raised on the day helps scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute discover treatments and cures, to give every child the opportunity to live a long and healthy life. All students are encouraged to wear their jeans (no rips or tears) with their school sports uniform and closed in shoes on the day. Students are asked to bring along a gold coin donation on the day so the SRC can assist in raising much-needed funds for a very worthwhile campaign. Class News from PrepAB Prep had been missing participating in the CCPS buddy program which was interrupted by the COVID-19 restrictions last term but this term our Year 4 buddies have been visiting us again and we have loved seeing them. During our buddy sessions, we have the opportunity to engage in different activities that let us create, play, investigate or even sometimes just read. Last week our Year 4 buddies brought along the Spheros and started teaching us how to make them move using the program on the iPads. We worked in teams to create different ‘tracks’ for the Spheros to race through but every track was different. Some tracks had tunnels, some had ramps, some had a start and an end, and some were continuous tracks. We learnt what worked well and what was difficult for the Spheros to get through. This week we are going to use what we learnt to recreate the tracks and see if it is easier to drive the Spheros without the same obstacles.
